Our club meets every other Wednesday from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Media, PA. For questions or comments, please write to delawarecounty-officers@freetoasthost.org.

Please check Calendar and Plans for the rest of the year.  We will have these events only for half the time of the meeting day.  The rest would be devoted to either Table Topics or Speeches.

  • The Region 7 International contest on June 28th in Rockville, Maryland.
  • The Big Dance will be held on August 16th in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

After a busy and eventful year for our club, the final meeting for the year 2007 was capped off by a guest speaker who enlightened and captivated the crowd with his gentle, cordial style. On Wednesday, December 12, 2007, Dr. Dilip R. Abayasekara visited the Delaware County Toastmasters Club and gave a moving presentation to a packed house. “Dr. Dilip” was born and grew up in Sri Lanka. He moved to the United States and earned a baccalaureate in chemistry. Subsequently, he earned a doctorate in polymer and organic chemistry, and worked in industry for twelve years.  Dilip began to feel unfulfilled in his work as a scientist, and changed his focus to public speaking. This article is a review of the workshop I recently gave at our February 20, 2008 meeting, for those of you unable to be at the meeting and others that would like a refresher.

 “According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is Death; does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”  Jerry Seinfeld

Highlights of our club - July 2007 through December 2007
  • Four officers attended training
  • Started a library system for keeping track of valuable books donated by members
  • Increased membership during August and September that won us the Smedley Membership Award
  • Conducted ongoing Surveys to improve the club and raise the bar
  • Held Club Contest with two winners who moved to area level contest
  • Two Area level contest winners moved to Division level
  • One Division level contest winner moved to District and won 3rd place
  • Conducted workshop at Delaware County Community College
  • Attended District Conference
  • Met with other Area clubs and their Presidents that have fostered comraderie
  • Participated at Leader's Summit Conference
  • Past International President of Toastmasters Dr. Dilip Abayasekara was a guest speaker at our club

Club Achievements
 

Awarded by Toastmasters International to our club for increase of 5 new members between August 1st and September 30th 2007. Thanks to all the officers and the particular members who worked hard for this goal.
